May 2007 - Ask Kim Column

Dear Kim:
Just last week I discovered my most trusted girlfriend in bed with my last boyfriend. Naturally I was devastated. Having been divorced and living alone now for 10 years...when/where is my Mr. Right? I am tired of kissing "frogs" and being the nice girl that finishes last. Why has it been so impossible to find someone to simply love me back?
Lily J., 46
Sugar Land, Texas

Dear Lily:
Talk about a scene from a B movie! You say that this man was your "last boyfriend," so in all fairness, once the two of you broke up, it immediately became none of your business who he has sex with. However, in the female community there is an unspoken rule about NEVER having sex with a girlfriend's ex or a sister's ex, (etc.) and your "friend" knew exactly what she was doing when she took off her Victoria Secret undies. It begs the question: with so many men out there, why did she have to choose him? And did she have her eye on him while you two were still together?! Well, now you know just how much of a friend she really was!

So, with you being the "nice girl" that you are, why have these hideous, hurtful sequence of events unfolded? Because, gorgeous, the universe is trying to help you clear the decks so you can graduate to a much happier place. You've finally outgrown all the people who came into your life as necessary learning experiences, and your angels wanted to tangibly demonstrate this to you. (That's how you caught the two of them in bed! I'll bet that every time your ex-boyfriend thinks of what happened, one of his body parts shrivels. I can just hear that certain body part crying, "Help! I've fallen and I can't get up!")

These are the events you can look forward to:
1. You're going to make new girlfriends who are of your current, hard-won level of enlightenment.
2. You will meet a soul mate in early 2008.
3. You and Mr. Wonderful will marry and eventually move to Arizona, which you will love.
4. You will begin your life's work there as an artist, and your paintings will be sold in galleries. This is a time to celebrate!

Dear Kim:
I am currently separated (living in a different state from my husband) and contemplating divorce. I instinctively feel he is cheating and his lies have driven me over the edge. He claims he wants to reconcile but I don't know if he means it or is just toying with my emotions. How do I catch him red-handed in an affair without spending thousands on private investigator fees? I think of him every waking second and can't get him or our relationship out of my mind.
Tina R., 29,
Houston, Texas

Dear Tina:
You're thinking of your husband every waking moment because your angels are relentlessly nagging you to MOVE ON! They are telling me that your emotions are now being fueled by anger and betrayal rather than love. You've been living on this lethal emotional cocktail so long that it has created a spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical toxicity. Right now you're thinking, "But he did run out on me, and---" Okay, he did! He was a downright schlemiel! So, ask yourself if it really matters that he wants a reconciliation?

You don't love, trust, or respect the guy any more; and you're stuck emotionally like one of those old records that keeps playing the same tune over and over again. Rather than spending the money to "catch him red handed" to prove something you already know, invest the money in a good therapist. (My angels directed me to a therapist when I was going through my divorce some years ago, and it was an investment in my whole future!)

Spiritually speaking, you are through with this ghastly learning experience and you just need a little help moving on. Remember that the journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step. The journey on which you can choose to embark upon right now will lead to a soul mate and a wonderful new life! You've been focusing on a relationship that no longer exists. Allow a therapist to help you shift your focus to all the things you have to look forward to! Take that first step into your bright future...NOW! Good luck, sweetie!

Dear Kim:
I'm questioning my life direction and purpose. I enjoy my work but would like to earn more money and really want to relocate back to the US mainland. I feel like I'm somewhat stuck; do you have any insight for me?
Marie C., 43,
St. Croix, USVI

Dear Marie:
You're not stuck at all; you've just begun a new chapter of your personal and professional life, and the chapter hasn't completely unfolded yet. Your soul is telling you, "it's time for some big changes...let's go!" And you're wondering, "okay...where to?" You've outgrown your current life by working through all the difficult issues that have confronted you during that last six years...hearty congratulations are in order! (I hear your angels applauding you, which is high praise indeed.)

They are telling me that you would be happiest moving to Florida, where you could live and work in direct view of the beautiful water there. To be most fulfilled, you need your own business. I'm hearing real estate. I also see you successfully opening a restaurant featuring a combination of seafood, Cuban, Caribbean, and Mediterranean foods that will become a landmark in the area. This is the perfect time to set all of this in motion.

----------------------------------------------------------

Dear Kim:
I'm unhappy and unclear about my career situation. Should I focus on getting an 8-5 job, or continue working on getting my own business going? Or should I chuck both ideas and focus on getting a position in Vancouver, which is where my wife and I really want to be anyway. Also, when do you see us moving there?
E.B.D., 47,
Austin, Texas

Dear E.B.D.:
YOU in an 8-5 job toiling for someone else? I think not! You get nauseous just thinking about it! You're just having an anal moment. Your angels tell me that they have been nagging you to take the leap of faith and move to Vancouver, and THEN get your own business off the ground there.

If you keep plugging away on your entrepreneurial endeavors where you are, before you know it, the days will unfold into weeks, and the weeks into months, and the months into years...and you'll still be miserable in Austin wondering what you're going to be when you grow up. (Imagine that you suddenly hear the theme song to the movie Rocky as you continue to read.)

You are an individual with huge talents and abilities who is here to make a major difference in other peoples' lives. It is time to grasp this destiny with both hands and move forward with courage and conviction. If you choose to quit worrying, you'll stop having all those anal episodes which only serve to confuse you about what direction your life should take. Everything will work out! You already know what to do!
