How We Choose Our Life's Work
|
Once back on earth, each soul is at the epicenter of its own ripple effect, creating currents of positive shifts that will impact fellow travelers at the level of which it is capable. When a soul in heaven wants to improve itself, how does it go about the transition process?
The two biggest decisions a soul has to make involve his life's purpose and the emotional issues he plans to resolve. Those two dynamics comprise the foundation of his spiritual blueprint. Only after he has chosen his life's work and the emotional issues he will attempt to address does he consider all of the other details of his life's path that will allow him to accomplish as much as possible during his time on the earthly plane. Every human being on the earthly plane has planned a specific life's work, including you! But how does one go about making such an important decision? Souls typically gravitate toward the type of work for which they've had an affinity in prior earthly lifetimes. The life's work we choose is certain to result in spiritual, emotional, and mental fulfillment; and, stating the obvious, a soul would never choose a kind of work that he would not be successful in achieving. When I conduct private sessions, clients ask about the nature of their life's work more than any other question. When I reveal specifics about what they are here on the earthly plane to accomplish, often the individual will gasp and respond, "What! Can I do that? I'd love to, but I don't know if I'm capable!"
What's more, a soul often continues to choose the same kind of life's purpose again and again; only the method by which it conducts the work will shift from lifetime to lifetime.
For example, a soul that enjoys healing may have worked as a doctor in the Middle Ages healing victims of the plague with flower essences; then, returned for another earthly lifetime to work as a doctor in colonial America healing victims of smallpox with leeches; followed by a lifetime as a surgeon operating on soldiers from the front lines in WWI; and who, in the present day, works as an orthopedic surgeon in modern-day London, devoting his time to replacing arthritic hips and knees with technologically-advanced prosthesis joints.
Souls that gravitate toward the performing and creative arts may have been a poet in the time of Jesus; an actor performing Shakespeare in the Middle Ages; an artist during the Renaissance; then an opera singer in the 1800's; and now an author of children's books.
Other souls may have an affinity for public service. A soul could have chosen to be a diplomat during the reign of Elizabeth I; a sympathetic judge during the Spanish Inquisition; an activist working to free the slaves in antebellum America; an inventor during the Industrial Revolution; and now, a Member of Parliament fighting for funds to feed the poor. An intrepid ship's captain who sailed a merchant vessel on uncharted seas to transport silks, spices, and precious stones during the Middle Ages may now be a helicopter pilot who ferries donated organs to medical centers for lifesaving transplants. There are other souls that love to work with the soil as farmers, ranchers, cattlemen, or who own vineyards filled with grapes or olives while they are residing on the earthly plane.
Individuals who enjoy the military often repeat those experiences. General George S. Patton believed that he had past lifetimes on earth as a soldier and spoke openly about it. Perhaps that is why he so fearlessly prevailed during World War II -- since developing combat strategies was so familiar to him?
Athletic ability is also echoed from life to life. An individual who participated in the early Olympic Games could have been reborn as an Olympian in other incarnations. Perhaps some of the professional athletes today have followed these patterns in past earthly lives?
Typically, a soul will choose a kind of life's purpose that will allow it to carry on from where it left off in a prior life, seeking to make a mark on the earthly plane and leaving it a better place. In this regard, a soul revisiting earth may choose to raise a family and remain in the same community in which it was born for an entire lifetime, or, it could decide to impact the world at large, creating a ripple effect of positive change that transcends political philosophies, geographic borders, and religious beliefs...like a Mother Theresa, Helen Keller, Michelangelo, Thomas Edison, Clara Barton, or Alexander Fleming.
Regardless of the size of the impact it plans to make while on earth, each soul has the same opportunity to develop greater wisdom, maturity, and enlightenment so that its time on earth is wisely invested for itself...and others!

How the Poor Farmer Helped the Nobleman
|
His name was Fleming, and he was a poor Scottish farmer. One day, while trying to make a living for his family, he heard a cry for help coming from a nearby bog. He dropped his tools and ran to the bog. There, mired to his waist in black muck, was a terrified boy, screaming and struggling to free himself. Farmer Fleming saved the lad from what could have been a slow and terrifying death. The next day a fancy carriage pulled up to the Scotsman's sparse surroundings. An elegantly dressed nobleman stepped out and introduced himself as the father of the boy Farmer Fleming had saved. "I want to repay you," said the nobleman. "You saved my son's life."
"No, I can't accept payment for what I did," the Scottish farmer replied waving off the offer. At that moment, the farmer's own son came to the front door of the family home. "Is that your son?" the nobleman asked.
"Yes," the farmer replied proudly.
"I'll make you a deal. Let me provide him with the same level of education my own son will enjoy. If the lad is anything like his father, he'll no doubt grow up to be a man we will both be proud of." And that he did.
Farmer Fleming's son attended the very best schools and in time, graduated from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London, and went on to become known throughout the world as the noted Sir Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of Penicillin.
Years afterward, the same nobleman's son who was saved from the bog was stricken with pneumonia. What saved his life this time? Penicillin.
The name of the nobleman? Lord Randolph Churchill. His son's name? Sir Winston Churchill.

Channeled Question of the Month
|
Dear Kim: I am feeling so completely lost. I'm
trying to retire, but it doesn't appear that I have enough money to do
this. All my finances just haven't worked out as planned. Health
concerns and health insurance are other issues. I'm so tired of
working in corporate America and I don't feel that I have the
strength--either physically or emotionally--to go back into that kind
of a stress-laden job that robs me of all my time. I am trying to
write books, but just keep getting blocked with various crisis. I've
just about given up hope. What is to become of me? Betty W., 58, Houston, Texas
Dear
Betty: Darling, we are going to wade through your dilemmas one by
one. I'm so glad to see that you already know what you don't want!
It's hard to move forward without knowing that...so you are
much further along than you realize.
By the way, you outgrew corporate
America a long time ago. It was necessary for you to endue that
environment for a long while because it provided the adversity you
needed to resolve some serious issues. Once you prevailed over those,
you were ready to exit stage left! Your life's work does involve
writing! You are supposed to be writing fiction (but based on your
experiences) about life in corporate America as you experienced
it...nincompoops and all. You are a very funny gal, remember?
Plus,
you always knew that you were there for a good reason...and you were!
You were conducting your literary research! The book is going to be a
humorous reflection of the corporate world, full of anal-retentive
executives, status-hungry administrative assistants, ego-driven middle
management, and long suffering, sexually harassed, underpaid, and
overworked secretaries. That makes me laugh! Am I saying that
everyone in the corporate world is a dysfunctional goofball? Of course
not...but you did work with some real loo-loos! You're going to create
a reenactment of the little world that you were a part of...and your
angels are comparing it to the sensation Peyton Place created so many
years ago.
Your book is going to be very juicy...like a tell-all! You
would love puncturing the self-importance of some of the people you
worked with, although, of course, you will not be using their real
names. You're choosing to look at your life with nothing but pessimism
and negativity right now, so your creative juices can't flow. Grab a
glass of wine and some good chocolate, sit in front of your computer,
and pretend that you are going to describe everyone you worked
with---for me. Before you know it, you're going to be chuckling and
having a grand time, recalling all of the nonsense that you were
exposed to. You're in decent health, so stop worrying about it! You
will support yourself through writing novels thinly based on true
events. Get going! As my seven-year-old daughter Megan always says,
"Mommy...a girl has to do what a girl has to do!" |

Profiles in Success
|
Kim, I owe you a tremendous thanks.
I came to see you about career choices..which school I should choose to teach
at. You smiled and said, "We'll get to that. Let's talk about
your writing." Your vision of my work and success prompted me to start
writing my book. Fast forward 8 years and Body
Brilliance: Mastering Your Five Vital Intelligences is a #1 bestselling
Health and Wellness book and has won two national book of the year awards.
Thank you for that
ever-so-gentle kick in the pants.

Hypnosis Helps!
by Carolyn H. Grace
|
Have you ever wondered what hypnosis really feels like? How it
works? Whether it might be of benefit to you in your life
circumstances? I, too, used to wonder those same things. For me there
was also an additional impetus for wanting to find out the answers
After completing three years of advanced training for the practice of
mental health counseling, and then counseling for several years using
traditional therapeutic techniques, I found myself yearning for
even more effective ways to help clients. Ways to get past the
"blocks" that sometimes occur in traditional talk therapy. Ways of
accessing and using the total person--not only intellectually but also
emotionally and spiritually--for understanding, healing, and life
change.
In order to answer some of the
above questions about hypnosis, I will share with you the basics of (1)
what hypnosis is, (2) what it feels like to be hypnotized, (3)
how hypnosis helps, (4) roles of conscious and subconscious states,
(5) the use of hypnosis for life changing possibilities, (6) some
common misconceptions about hypnosis, and (7) a final note.
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is the simple shifting back and forth between the conscious
and subconscious mind. It is a natural process that occurs for most of
us an estimated 80% of every day. It is a state available to every
human being. In our everyday life, it occurs without conscious
intent when we "veg out" in front of the television; get bored while
driving and start problem solving or planning; enter a fervent state of
prayer; focus our full attention on a creative project; become totally
engrossed in what we are reading; etc. It is a highly focused state of
attention . Hypnosis allows access to
the subconscious mind. It is from the subconscious that we access
imagination, intuition, and creativity, which can then be utilized to
effect healing and change. Hypnotherapy empowers the person! It is an
avenue for finding answers within the self.
Hypnosis is safe, easy, and scientifically verified and accepted. It
is medically approved by the American Medical Association.
What Does It Feel Like to Be Hypnotized?
The answer to this is extremely important because it may determine
whether or not a person will benefit from hypnosis. The average person
has the idea that she will go through something different, new and
spectacular in the hypnotic state. Or, he may equate being hypnotized
with being anesthetized, being asleep, or being unconscious.
The experience of being hypnotized is no different from the experience
of relaxing and of starting to fall asleep. Your mind is active, your
thoghts are under your control, you perceive all stimuli, and you are
in complete communication with the therapist. The only unique thing
you may experience is a feeling of heaviness in your limbs or tingling
in your hands and fingers. As to recall and use of the session, you
will remember everything that has happened when the session is over.
How Does Clinical Hypnosis Help?
In the clinical setting where hypnosis is induced on purpose for
therapeutic reasons, the clinician may use one of several methods for
helping the person to get into a deep state of relaxation. In
a relaxed state, there is an easy flow of awareness between the
conscious mind, the subconscious mind, and the physical state of the
body. In this state of relaxation and heightened awareness, we access
historical information--from both the conscious and subconscious
mind--on feelings, ideas, and behaviors. We are able to find out when,
where, and why we made certain decisions about how to respond to our
environment and protect or care for ourselves. This information leads
to getting a better understanding of our current responses and
behaviors. It also allows for an opportunity to let go of non-serving self-limiting decisions and replace them with responses and actions
that will better serve us.
Conscious and Subconscious States
As we understand ourselves today, our conscious mind is only about 10%
of how we know and process information. The conscious part of the mind
analyzes, thinks, plans, and supplies short-term memory. The
subconscious mind is responsible for the other 90% of our knowing and
responding. It includes the following: long-term memory; emotions and
feelings; patterns of actions and responses to feelings and situations;
relationship patterns; addiction patterns; creativity; spiritual
connections; intuition; developmental stages; and involuntary bodily
functions. From this list, it is easy to understand the importance of
being able to access and use the subconscious part of ourselves!
During the hypnosis process, the person's increased awareness of body, conscious mind, and subconscious mind allows for total-being input,
i.e., body, mind, and spirit. It is in this state of total-being
awareness that the awesome creative, spiritual, emotional abilities of
the human-being come together for healing and change!
Life Changing Possibilities
We've probably all heard about the use of hypnosis for smoking
cessation, weight loss, and stress reduction. What one might not be
aware of is that hypnosis can be used in any life situation to more
clearly understand, heal emotionally, and release self-defeating ideas
and behaviors. In this process, one puts into place (as a replacement
for the old), attitudes, decisions, and behaviors that serve one in
better ways! Life change is about getting to the "real self".
To my knowledge, the use of the hypnosis process is limitless in
helping to create life changing possibilities. Just to give you a
few ideas, it can be used to overcome: specific or generalized fear,
anxiety, unresolved grief, stress triggers, depressive symptoms,
resentments, failure patterns, anger, procrastination, the victim role,
the caretaker role, repression of feelings, repression of
expression--and the list goes on. It is limitless!
Since there are emotional components to physical illness, the use of
hypnosis can be beneficial in discovering and releasing emotional
contributors to illness, or blocks to healing. Any healing process can
be bolstered by attention to the self in the hypnotic, relaxed state. Common Misconceptions about Hypnosis
Hypnosis Alone Is a Magic Bullet
In my practice, hypnosis is one of many therapeutic tools available to
help make life better and easier. While hypnosis is a very
helpful therapeutic technique, it is not a be-all and end-all that
cures all ills. Hypnosis is an easier and faster way to get to
personal understanding, healing, and change. Life patterns about which
we must make conscious choice also have to be
addressed. Hypnosis combined with other therapeutic techniques offers
maximum benefits.
With client
permission, I will use the following example of success using a
combination of hypnosis and communication skills. This person came for
assistance because she and her husband were at an angry stand-off about
several matters, about which they each had very intense feelings. She
felt their relationship was in real trouble. Since they had not been
able to resolve conflicted issues, the result for both
parties was increased anger and resentment, frequent arguments,
decreased emotional intimacy, infrequent sexual desire and fulfillment,
etc . One of her specific complaints was that it was all about what
and when he wanted, including their sex life.
After gathering a complete history, and with the agreement of the
client, we used hypnosis to help her with anger resolution. What she
learned was that the same feelings and response patterns she had
experienced as a young child with her mother were now repeating in her
marriage. I.e., response to imagined or real authority
figures--mother's way or no way; husband's way or no way. So, the
client was responding to her husband in the same way she had as a
child responded to her mother--feeling helpless and without power, she
felt victimized and became oppositional, disagreeable, and resentful.
With the use of the hypnosis process, she was able to release the
intensity of her anger toward her mother and move from child to
adult understanding about this pattern with her husband.
After that one hypnosis session, she returned for her next appointment
all excited and telling me that for the first time in years she had
initiated sex with her husband and the sex was fantastic!! So, by
releasing anger in an early relationship and coming to an understanding
of her patterns of response to authority, she had freed herself to be
more open in her spousal relationship--without even focusing on the
spousal relationship! Magical!! Then, in later talk-therapy
sessions, she learned communication techniques which enabled her to
better offer and receive information when problem solving with her
spouse. The end result was that problems were resolved and
the marriage was strengthened! A combination approach to
change--hypnosis and communication skill building.
Being Hypnotised Means Giving Up Control of One's Self
This simply is NOT true! Moving into a state of relaxation
and increased awareness of one's total self does not mean giving up
control!
In my practice, an
experience of comfort with the therapist is always a prerequisite for
the use of hypnosis. During the first session, a full history is
obtained, goals established, and all questions about hypnosis and how
it is accomplished are answered. During this process, there is ample
opportunity to become comfortable with the therapist. Once comfort
and rapport are established, one is able to fully benefit from the
process.
A Final Note
Whatever you believe, you will become! Change your mind, change your life!

Blonde Moment
|
An elderly Florida woman did her shopping and, upon returning
to her car, found four males in the act of leaving with her vehicle.
She dropped her shopping bags and drew her handgun,
proceeding to scream at the top of her lungs, "I have a gun and I know
how to use it! Get out of the car!"
The four men didn't wait for a second threat. They got out of the car and ran like mad.
The woman, somewhat shaken, then proceeded to load her shopping bags
into the back of the car and got into the driver's seat. She was so
shaken that she could not get her key into the ignition.
She tried and tried, and then she realized why. It was for the same
reason she had wondered why there was a football, a Frisbee, and two
12-packs of beer in the front seat.
A few minutes later, she found her own car parked five spaces farther down. She loaded her bags into the car and drove to the police station to report her mistake.
The sergeant to whom she told the story couldn't stop laughing. He
pointed to the other end of the counter, where four pale men were
reporting a car jacking by a mad, elderly woman described as white,
less than five feet tall, with curly white hair, wearing glasses, and
carrying a large handgun.
No charges were filed.
